Launching "The Accidental Veterinarian"

For those of you who are unaware, parts of this blog have been turned into a book that is being published by ECW Press in Toronto. The official launch is at McNally Robinson this Thursday evening (April 25) at 7:30 pm, and everyone is invited! RSVPs to caroline@ecwpress.com are preferred but not required.
After that, the book will be available at McNally, Chapters, on Amazon and at independent booksellers throughout North America (and, curiously, Poland, Russia, and Hungary as translations have been sold there).

  1. With much interruption from Cooper the dog I finally finished reading The Accidental Veterinarian. Bravo Dr. Schott!! What a wonderful book. I want to say thank you for sharing your experiences, insights and stories. I also would like to thank you for being such a wonderful vet. I calculated it's been about 25 plus years that my pets have been benefiting from your knowledge and on occasion been challenging (speaking of which a lengthy email is forthcoming about Cooper the dog and the "not in this lifetime nail trim"). Your book has granted me a rare realistic transparent look into the life of a veterinarian and all the trials and tribulations that come with it. It has reminded me about the importance of ongoing communication, why Cedric the squirrel should be left in the back yard to intimidate the dog lol (no matter how adorable he/she is) and the ongoing challenges of veterinary medicine all vets face on a daily and ongoing basis. I have had the honor of being owned by 17 plus ferrets and 3 dogs over as many years. Despite a piece of my heart being taken each time one of them passed, I would not trade the time I had with them for the world. Thank you for being a part of each and every one of their lives. I would not trade that for the world either,
Um, when is your next book due out?

    1. You're too kind Kathy - thank you! And for your part, you are the type of pet owner vets dream of - understanding, sensible, rational and, of course, so deeply caring about yuor creatures! It's been my absolute pleasure to help you look after them.
Next book? Well, I am writing one, but it's a bigger project and it's a secret for now :-)

  2. Why "curiously"? Just started reading and I can see vets have the same (more or less) problems, observations, reflections across the entire world. I am also a vet but no longer working in pet clinic. Now working in a public administration in State Veterinary Inspection (responsible for veterinary border control). Thank you Dr. Schott for the book, especially for this very true statement that if you want to be a vet, you have to love also humans, not only animals. Zuzanna from Poland.

    1. Hi! Thanks! I've been away and am just logging back into my blog now... I wrote 'curiously' because I would have expected translations in the more widely spoken languages first, but I guess that's not necessarily how the publishing industry works. Regardless, I am extremely pleased to have readers in Poland! Cheers,
      Philipp
